November 2018 - I originally started making jewelry out of computer parts in the 1980’s while attending Fanshawe College in Electronics Engineering. This was a fun way to leverage my creative skills, generate money while in college, and re-use parts that would otherwise go in the landfill.
During the past 30 plus years, my technology career has evolved from repairing circuit boards, to installing and designing computer networks, contact centres and now as a consulting firm that helps our health care, first responder and distress sector clients design and select communications technology.
We moved to Thorndale a few years ago, and I have had the opportunity to learn about and work with the great folks at I Love Thorndale, a local non-profit community group that has transformed how we all live and work together in Thorndale.
I am now a proud business supporter of the work they do, and have been thinking about how I could help them generate revenue to help them grow and expand their services they provide.
I have also been involved in helping design and deploy the new national Canada Suicide Prevention Service over the past two years. The organization has helped hundreds of people in suicide prevention and support and needs funding to grow capacity of responders.
While working on clearing out our garage, I came across an old computer that we were going to dispose of, and I had a big ah-ha..... Why not make some art objects and give the proceeds to our two corporate charities???
I thought I would reach out to my network to get computers and old fashion jewelry to provide me with parts. This would reduce my costs and enable me donate more funds to our charities.
We hope to also provide opportunities for local young people to help us with the assembly, packing, etc. associated with creating the products as the volume expands.
Do not hesitate to contact us if you want to donate computer circuit boards, keyboards or fashion jewelry that you no longer want. If you drop off your objects, you are welcome to receive one of our new products as a token of our appreciation.
